Hi — I’m the CraftMuni studio. Tell me what you feel, in your own words. I’ll shape it into a painting and a Gond artist paints the one you choose.
How it works

From a sentence to a painting on your wall.

01Type what you feel

A sentence or a paragraph — a person, a pet, a place, a year. No form, no account.

02Watch it take shape

The studio turns it into a brief you can edit line by line, then sketches four concepts on the canvas in about a minute. Free.

03A Gond artist paints it

Choose a sketch and reserve it for $150, then pay as your art progresses. The artist redraws it by hand — outline first, eyes last — over 4–6 weeks, with progress photos.

04It arrives rolled

24 × 24 in acrylic on canvas, in a tube with a signed certificate and your story card. Frame it however you like.

What you pay

Pay as your painting takes shape.

$449 in all, our early-bird price until Dec 31 ($549 after), with free tracked shipping. The sketches cost nothing, and you never pay ahead of what you’ve seen.

Questions

Before you begin.

What do I pay, and when?

$449 in all (early-bird until Dec 31, then $549). $150 to reserve the painting, $150 when you approve the artist's outline, $149 when it's finished, before it ships. The first payment is refunded in full if you cancel before the artist starts.

Is the sketch the painting?

No. The sketches are free concept drawings that show the composition. The artist repaints your chosen sketch by hand in their own style, so the finished painting will differ from it. Gond figures are stylised: people are recognised by what they wear and carry, not by their faces.

What if I don't love the sketches?

Ask for changes and redraw, as many times as you like. It's free, and you pay nothing until you've chosen one.

How long does it take? Can it arrive by a date?

About 4–6 weeks from reserving, with progress photos along the way. If you need it by a date, say so in your story or message us on WhatsApp before you reserve, and we'll tell you honestly whether we can make it.

Shipping and duties?

Free tracked shipping. The canvas travels rolled in a tube with a signed certificate and your story card. Hand-painted originals enter the US duty-free.

Who paints it?

A Gond artist from central India, working in the tradition's dots, dashes and flat colour. Within two working days of reserving we tell you who is painting yours and when they start.

What fits on the square

Honest about what a hand can hold.

Gond painting is flat colour, bold outline and a fill of dots and dashes that is each artist’s signature. It is not a photograph, and it is better for it. Here is what the form can carry, so what you ask for is what arrives.

Detail of a Gond painting: Twenty-Five Sundays
Two figures, told by a sari and a newspaper. Every leaf filled by hand.
01Likeness is told, not copied

Figures are stylised — a face is an outline and two dots. People are recognised by hair, a sari border, a hat, the thing they always carry. Tell us those.

02Four scenes, not forty

The square holds about 4 moments as vignettes — roots, trunk, branches, canopy. More than that and nothing reads.

03Flat colour, filled with rhythm

Up to 6 flat colours on cream. No shading, no perspective. Every shape is filled with the artist's own repeated pattern — that fill is their signature.

04Nothing smaller than a thumbnail

Every motif is at least 2 cm at full size so it reads from across a room. Street signs, skylines and logos become simple silhouettes or are left out.

05No lettering

Names, dates and words don't go on the canvas. They go on the signed certificate and the story card that ship with it.

06The sketch is a map, not the painting

The AI concept fixes the composition you chose. The artist redraws it by hand, outline first, eyes last — 4–6 weeks.

The lineage

A story form, before it was a painting.

Sung first

The Pardhan Gond of Madhya Pradesh were bards: a family's history was something you sang. The painted form kept that job — one canvas, one story.

The fill as signature

In the 1980s Jangarh Singh Shyam put the form on paper and canvas. Each artist since fills shapes with their own mark — seeds, scales, comb-lines — so a trained eye can name the painter from the fill.

Acrylic, by hand

Today's artists work in acrylic on primed canvas. Outline first, fill next, eyes last — the belief being that sight is what brings a figure to life.
